Goodbye Goods!

Goods has been an essential part of the Seattle street wear and skate culture for almost a decade and it has come time to close the doors. It was the first place I heard about some of my favorite brands like Flying Coffin and Actual Pain. In fact, my first ever tee that I bought there was a Flying Coffin x Actual Pain collaboration. Head over this weekend to snag some deals and say goodbye to one of the best shops Seattle’s ever seen.

Fixielist

The Fixielist facebook group is a great resource for those who are looking to buy or sell used fixed gear bike parts. Give it a look!

ZLOG BOUTIQUE – New Arrivals

Over the last 10 months I have been extremely busy transitioning into a new workspace in the heart of the Belltown district of Seattle. Not only have I transferred into a new space, but we’ve teamed up with IMPRNT to produce our line of tees and hats in-house for a more hands-on production process.

ZLOG Lines with teal to magenta fade and ZLOG CROP logo snapback.

The Illuminati tee is back in action with metallic gold ink.

The X-Up Redux tank is a slightly altered version of the X-up design. Printed with metallic bronze ink.

We now have the ability to screen print onto blank hats. The Illuminati snapback is something I’ve been wanting to do on a hat, but with embroidery, the design wouldn’t have worked.

Check out the whole lineup of goods over at ZLOGBTQ.com.

Snakebite Bike Gang Soft Goods

The folks at Snakebite are releasing a special edition Valentines day tee. The whole line drops in spring so keep your eyes on their facebook for more info.

SPIKE HI BAR

Breakbrake17 / Spike put together a mini edit with Wonder at their local park to promote their Hi Bar. Keep your eyes peeled on this crew, lots of new things in the works for 2012!

The entire team has been riding these bars for quite a while without any hiccups or complaints. They come in blue, black, and flashy chrome. They are plenty wide and have a comfortable backsweep as well. For the time being, I can’t see myself riding any bars but these.

WE LOVE SPIKE HI BAR part 1 from breakbrake17 on Vimeo.

Bike Check – Radio Bombtrack

Radio Bikes is a company based out of Cologne, Germany. They currently have a large selection of BMX bikes and components in their line, and in the last couple years have been busting into the Fixed Gear Freestyle market (Mainly in Europe). I have been in touch with the folks who are spearheading the Bombtrack project and I find they are very knowledgeable and excited about the future of Fixed Freestyle; not something I expected from a company with a rich BMX history. It turns out the people behind this particular frame are fixed riders. Their sponsored rider, Simon “Gomok” Andraca has played a big part in development and it really shows.

The Bombtrack is in-line with all of the current necessities of a modern fixed freestyle bike. It features a negative bb drop, sloping top tube, 14mm dropouts, it comfortably fits 2.3 inch tires and 26″ wheels. I have been able to feel a positive difference when it comes to 180’s, full cabs, and hops in general. I am loving the S&M 5″ rise bars. They are super wide, high, and strong. Thanks to Shad at GOODS BMX for helping me find the right bar/stem combo! Another new component that I need to mention is the Zontrac straps; they hold their shape amazing and are the thickest, stiffest straps I have ridden thus far.

Freaker Fine Bottle Sweaters

Freaker sent over a little care package with some of their fine bottle koozies, known as Freakers. They are super stretchy and fit on pretty much anything. There are several different (and crazy) options to choose from. I had to snag the flannel one to match my wardrobe (NW pride) as well as the American flag version.

For $8 you can get your own Freaker, which is made in the USA.
More styles are available at Freakerusa.com

Typo Bike Rack

Tarmo Luisk created this typography inspired bike rack system to convey a message about a place or company while adding a useful feature to the environment. I wouldn’t mind seeing some of these around town.

Joseph Wilson Reppin’ Zlog

I sent some of the Kansas City dudes a care package recently. I am really hyped on the progress of the BBG crew within the last year and I felt they deserved a little bit of swag.

Product Review – Ignoble Cora Classic Rucksack

I have been sporting the Ignoble Cora Rucksack for the better part of two months now and it is definitely a step-up from other rucksacks. It is a very light-weight (624 g) nylon bag and is structured quite well. The straps on the side expand and compress depending on how much is being carried. The zip pockets on the top flap and exterior have nice leather pull straps and the side pockets make nice water bottle/u-lock holsters. The inside has a small pouch for small items, and there is even a slot that fits a laptop or books. The straps are well cushioned and it offers a cross-strap that helps keep it stable when riding.

The Cora Classic Rucksack is a good mid-sized bag that can fit quite a bit of stuff, but it works best as a day to day pack. Did I mention that it is made in the U.S.A. with military-grade materials?

A little over a year ago, Ignoble bags came onto the scene with their Mona Cocoon backpack, which was their only bag at the time. They now carry 5 different styles on their web store, each of which have their own unique look.

Dew – SADIO BOOSTER FRAME TEST #1

Wow, Dew really brings the heat. I watched this vid over and over. I am glad he healed up from his injury, hopefully we will see a lot more from him.

Cog x Chrome Southside

Both Cog Magazine and Chrome have been in the game for quite a while and both are highly involved in the bike scene. They decided to celebrate their bike culture roots by collaborating on some footwear. The Cog Southside has same beefy construction as the regular Chrome Southeside, but with an added touch from Cog on the inside foot and tongue.

Chris has been rocking out in some Southsides for a few months. He noted that he likes the super stiff soles and the leather material. The great thing about leather shoes is that you don’t get the faded toe knuckle marks cause by toe strap rubbing (aka ghost foot).

Bicycle Accident Report Card

Here is a handy little piece of paper that might serve very useful if you ever get into a collision with a car. Often enough cyclists will be disoriented when they get into an accident and fail to obtain crucial information about the driver that may help them legally. Boston based lawyer Josh Zisson saw this as a problem and took action by teaming up with graphic designer Tim Jaques to create the handy Bicycle Accident Report Card. It clearly shows the bike laws on one side, and has information for the driver to fill out on the other. This could spark a new revolution in bicycle advocacy and promote safer cohabitation between cars and bikes in our streets.

Fixed Mag 10

This issue delivers a bunch awesome articles and photos. Bike checks from Tyler Johnson and myself are in there squeezed between a Tom Lamarche/Tom Briggs article and a shop review of Pristine of Amsterdam. I couldn’t be more jazzed on this issue. Also there is an extensive article on Simon Andraca the freestyle king of France (France has kings right?). Get yourself a subscription over at Fixed Mag and you might get a limited edition shirt with the next issue.

The above photos came from my instagr.am account where I upload a lot of behind-the-scene photos of my life. If that interests you in the slightest bit you can follow me @zlog.

Goods from Around the Bike Scene

$15 tees from the homie and dope rider Jamil Gray. His new brand is called The Established. Check it out.

Our pals over at Heavy Pedal recently released these hoodies along with a bunch of other soft goods.

Last but certainly not least, iMiNUSD has Ride hoodies available. I like the print on the hood, it reminds my of my old Converge hoodie.

SE Showtime 26″ Press Release

The SE fixed team has been testing the 26″ Showtime fixed gear frame for a solid four months now. The riders have hammered out all the kinks & put it through some heavy abuse. The Showtime is fully heat treated post weld and has been able to withstand any sort of punishment DJ Mull, Josh Boothby, and Gus Molina have put it through since they first received their prototypes. Josh and DJ’s bikes fully built up have weighed in at 23lbs & 24lbs, while for tire clearance in the rear Gus has been running a 2.25 comfortably. With chain stays at only 14.55″ slammed, complimented by 14mm drop outs, the frame stays compact while accepting 14mm hubs.

Available in black in one size, you can look for the frame to be available in late February.
